Poorly explained plot with lots of gaps and heavily deviated from the book.
If aliens have the technology to reach earth then why harvest the odd human here and there - lots of energy used for low returns, surely they would have advanced nano-tech and bioengineering to synthetically produce whatever they want if they can travel the vast distance. Save yourself wasted time and avoid.
