'Under the Shadow', a British horror film in Persian, has some really scary moments, but the slow build in tension doesn't lead us to the climax I was hoping for. The setting is war torn Tehran, Iran in the 1980s where we have a family of three, two parents and an adolescent daughter. When the father goes off to fight in the Iran-Iraq War, things start to go missing at the apartment the mother and child are living in.
This is really well-acted and gorgeous. It's filmed with precision. The spine tingling occurs several times and you will be legit scared, but the ending just sets us up for a sequel without any real conclusion drawn. It's fine, but it's a screenplay that needed a lot of work. Final Score 6.0/10.
