Review of Under the Same Moon (2007) by Emily B — 21 Feb 2009
This story is quite common at least the families separated for years and it's happening everywhere through America!! It's quite uneasy to live like that it would be like living in half because you're not complete and you can see the suffering on the principal actors here in the movie the mother and the son and the kid really knows how to act!! I saw him first in the second part of Zorro.. and he actually is evolving!! and the movie actually delivers what it brings the life of people that live in fear working for a better future for them and their families because they don't have documents and aren't in the U.S. legally!!
The debut feature from director Patricia Riggen, this drama centers on a young boy's journey across the US/Mexico border to be reunited with his mother. Adrian Alonso stars as Carlitos, a Mexican adolescent living with his grandmother while his mother works as a maid in the US, hoping someday to send for her child. But when the grandmother dies unexpectedly, Carlitos must sneak across the border and seek out his mother.
UNDER THE SAME MOON (LA MISMA LUNA) tells the parallel stories of nine-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In the hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico. Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. Along the way, mother and son face challenges and obstacles but never lose hope that they will one day be together again. The Love Between a Mother and Son Knows No Boundaries.
