Review of Undead (2003) by Anna R — 20 Nov 2006
This is an odd little no-budget Australian horror-comedy effort from a few years back, and it's a shame to see such a waste of promise. The first half of the movie is absolutely brilliant. It's classic zombie-epidemic, cabin-with-basement, guts-eating, gore-splattering fare, with your tortured heroine, your blundering cop who wants to be in charge but actually spends most of his screen time delivering high-pitched hysterical monologues in which every other word is 'facking', and your taciturn hero who performs gloriously absurd feats of kicking undead butt, all filmed with fantastically tongue-in-cheek slo-mo camera action. However, then the aliens come into the picture, and it's downhill from there on.
Although the last half-hour or more is deeply unsatisfactory, I would recommend that all devoted zombie fans see this movie for the doorframe bit alone.
