Review of Undead (2003) by Kat D — 21 Mar 2007
This was billed as the Australian Shaun of the Dead - it clearly isn't primarily because it lacks all the major elements - well crafted script, sharply observed characters, beleviable SFX. I think I was on to a loser from the start with this movie as it contains one of the great cinematic oxymorons - 'Australian Comedy'.
Now, I'm not normally one for sweeping generalisations but the Aussies (God love 'em) aren't funny, at least not on screen. So at least half of this 'comedy horror movie' fell at the first.
The second part didn't take long to crumble either. Poor effects, unimaginative death scenes/monsters - I really don't know why they bothered. It looked, for all intents and purposes, like a 6th form media project, that would just about scrape a D.
Steer WELL clear!
