Review of Undead (2003) by Jameson A — 26 Apr 2009
I finally got around to putting this one in the DVD player yesterday. I have to say after reading all the mixed reviews, I was still pleased. The movie is absurd in all the right places. The comedy isn't inserted at "laugh here" spots but is drawn from intentionally over-the-top acting and goofy characters.
The zombies are very twisted looking and creepy as hell while at the same time sort of humorous. Very reminiscent of Evil Dead. I found the main characters to be very likeable, the female and male leads anyway.
All the other characters were unlikeable because they were meant to be that way. This film was effective in achieving exactly what it sought to do, and that is worth merit. Everything it tried to do worked, and the performances had a grin on my face the entire time.
See this movie with a light heart and an open mind, expect the worst and you'll get a treat. If you expect anything other than a ridiculous low budget campy indie zombie romp you're in for a disappointment.
This film gets 4 shotguns welded together.
