Review of Undead (2003) by Scott S — 11 Jan 2010
Undead (2003) -- [6.0] -- Twin Australian brothers Michael and Peter Spierig continue the low-budget horror legacies of Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson in their first feature film, "Undead". Their humor and inventiveness are very much in line with Raimi's and Jackson's, but they're also determined to give the genre their own unique spin.
Is "Undead" a zombie movie or is it an alien movie? The brothers combine the two in such a way that might make "Donnie Darko" director Richard Kelly a little envious. The cast of characters are all insane enough to keep you from ever taking the movie too seriously -- is this a drawback or a necessity? I'm not sure.
But I like how "Undead" starts off a zombie movie and then morphs into something else. And for a first film, it's at the very least remarkable.
