Review of Uncut Gems (2019) by Falling_Man — 13 Dec 2019
This film was an endless anxiety attack simulation, and I loved every minute of it. The Safdie Brothers pull an amazing performance out of Adam Sandler, a character whose every action ignites events which just get more chaotic and stressful.
He's a gambling addict in a world of trouble: His debtors are on his tale twenty four hours, his family life is falling apart, and so is his affair. Almost immediately it sets the tone with characters constantly shouting over each other, and the stakes are set from the start.
From that point on, the stakes only continue to rise, and during the moments it stops to breathe, the tension increases due to the positions that the protagonist is put in. I saw this three months ago, and I still haven't fully recovered from the roller coaster ride.
I look forward to watching it again, and to seeing what the Safdie Brothers bring us next.
