Review of Uncle Drew (2018) by Dj I — 09 Jul 2018
Anyone looking to throw stones at this film need only to look at the Aleve ads littering its homepage. This movie doesnt take itself seriously and neither should anyone else. This film is a great time for the entire family.
Its main theme: You miss 100% of the shots you dont take, is a metaphor that transcends sports. The comedy is very good and the characters all likable, even the villain who is so ridiculous you cant hate him either.
Knowledge of the NBA and basketball is helpful but not required although it will help you get some of the more deeper jokes such as Uncle Drew telling Preacher (Chris Webber) "I just wanna make sure you understand that we dont have anymore timeouts left.
" That was cold blooded, man, but it made me laugh. Of course, guys in their 60s balling full court dominating younger guys is absurd but I do think they could've gotten more comedic mileage out of playing up that generation vs generation vibe.
Either way, a very fun and entertaining film I most definitely recommend.
