Uncle Buck is one of the funniest movies from its time. I love John Candy and he is so perfect at being the obnoxious, over-bearing uncle. There are plenty of emotional moments in this as well, but it is mostly pure hilarity.
It has substance to it, unlike Planes Trains & Automobiles, and others that John Candy has done from the 80s.
