Review of Uncle Buck (1989) by Zachary R — 08 Jun 2013
This is a good movie of John Hughes that definitely belongs in his collection. Uncle Buck, even though not his greatest movie is one that keeps things entertaining and moving with laughs. In this film when the Russell family has a emergency where another family member in Detroit falls ill, the mother and father have to travel to Detroit to go make sure things are okay.
Only one problem, they need a baby sitter for the children. With no one available and out of options, they call upon the father's brother Buck. When the father calls Uncle Buck, we get a hilarious scene right off the bat that Uncle Buck is a slob as his apartment is a pit.
When Uncle Buck comes down to the Russell home, first going to the wrong one, we see how is confused and bumbling. But once the sweet children come into his life as Maizy and Miles seem to love him but also be goofballs themselves, the oldest daughter Tia, is not so thrilled with this arrangement.
Once things get rolling we can see that Miles and Maizy love him and that Uncle Buck looks out for Tia so that she doesn't fall under any peer pressure. With all this in mind Uncle Buck seems to be taking on responsibility.
..can he really change? This is a smart and sweet comedy that I think you'll love and enjoy. Not as high as other John Hughes films, but a classic nonetheless. 8 out of 10.
