Shows what the deep hearted love of a family and a physically healthy body can endure so that the mind doesn't snap. Zamperini's heart and body pulled him through and shut out his mind from the incredible daily pain.
That comes across in this movie very strongly, he says as much when they first get on the dinghy. The actor, Miyavi , playing the 'Bird' could be up for for best supporting actor Oscar.
