Review of Unbroken (2014) by Pete T — 24 Jan 2015
"The way forward is not revenge, it is forgiveness" Long (especially as the theater did not post the length on the board!) and slow at times, first part young Italian discriminated immigrant becomes all american sports hero (who lost in Berlin olympics to 3 finns, record holder Lehtinen et al, which I did not know!), then he survives 47 days on a raft on the Pacific (in the spirit of Cast away and Kon Tiki) and then endures over 2 years harsh labour and beatings in a japanese prison camp.
Plus in his ripe age of 80 carries the olympic torch in Japan. Could one film carry more different story lines? If his life as a christian speaker would have had more than half a sentence in the end, it would have gone too far.
