Review of Unbroken (2014) by Norm D — 19 Oct 2016
~ An under-known story that needed to be told whatever the picture's flaws - that aren't that many actually. After a really good start with the aviation elements the film perhaps necessarily slows to the experience of nothing happening, except bad things over an actual excruciating period of time - like 45 days in a raft in the Pacific expanse able to do nothing to aid in one's rescue.
Finally, being found turns-out to be a new horror. ~ It would be interesting to compare the book on which the picture is based. Some good Deakins photography surely aided Jolie's sophomore directorial inputs.
~ There was no need for this picture to run over 2-hrs, even with long Credits. Still, this picture reminds of the sacrifice of a young generation who did the actual fighting in 2 savage wars on both sides of the world.
See this picture to remind yourself of the reality of the fragility of the concept of the U.S. of A. (See the extra materials on the Bluray disk.) ~ Interesting that, like satan in "The Passion of the Christ," the godless tormentor had a feminine aspect.
(In TPOTC an actress played that part.) ~ See the extra materials on the disk, especially the forgiveness docu-vignette. ~ Joseph W's Review is short & right on-point.
