Review of Unbreakable (2000) by Joe B — 01 Dec 2010
I want this as a comic book series. RIGHT NOW. And I want Shyamalan to script it write it and do whatever with it because Shyamalan has done what so many have failed, that is to create a real life superhero, who is believable, sane and amazing.
The dialogues build up a sense of sadness and suspense and the actors are competent enough to carry the movie forward. Almost every scene look likes a comic book panel and the scene with Bruce Willis wearing a security guard uniform and looking like a messiah is just epic and reeking of coolness.
And the ending, the ending reminded me of the greatest archenemies of all time, the Joker from Batman, Gepetto from Fables, Brainiac from Superman and Moriarty from Holmes to name a few. The ending sets up that callibre of a good vs evil epic which, unless you read a lot of comics, you won't understand.
The movie is handled perfectly up till the end where Shyamalan tries out to mindfuck the audience. If you have been reading comics since you were born and understand the significance of an archenemy, I guarantee you that a chill will creep up your spine, and you will realize the epicness of the whole situation; images will shoot across your brain, images of Moriarty and Holmes, Luthor and Superman, Batman and Joker.
If you are a comic book fan like me you'll love this one, if you're not, maybe you'll hate it, maybe you'll like it, but I reccomend reading some comics before you let Shyamalan mindfuck you with this marvel of a movie.
Anyone who hated this movie must have had a rough childhood of shitty comics.
