Review of Unbreakable (2000) by Carol F — 20 Jan 2011
This movie and Signs is my favorite M. Night movies and this one is a bit better overall even though I love the message from Signs. This move is amazing visually, plot, writing, story, and acting. Even the music score is good.
It seems to have all the right pieces and they are put together perfectly. Sure the ending has a surprise twist to it. Yeah, that is an M. Night thing, but that isn't all to this movie. This is a great movie about knowing ones purpose and how that plays into who we are.
Purposelessness is an awful thing. The acting between Willis and Robyn Wright Penn is sweet and sorrowful. The dialogue between them is wonderful and really shows the emotional impact of a couple as they feel like they are moving apart.
Moreover, there is amazing camera work and acting without words. The body language with the interesting camera shots brings an amazing story to life that is a substory to the larger story. The director tells this story well.
This is one of my top movies and I could watch it many times. It's a keeper definitely.
