Review of Unbreakable (2000) by Alan G — 22 Sep 2017
This film was way too far ahead of its time to ever be truly appreciated for basically inventing the whole "gritty and realistic superhero" genre. Bruce Willis gives one of the best performances he's ever given, and the same can be said for Samuel L.
Jackson. The visual language of the film is excellent, and the decision to film scenes in single long takes allows the film to breathe through its uncovering of the narrative hidden beneath its layers.
While its twist ending doesn't have the same rewatch value as The Sixth Sense, and the decision to end the film with text on screen was egregious, the film is too good for these flaws to actually weigh it down.
Must watch.
