Review of Un Chien Andalou (1929) by Kevin W — 22 Mar 2008
Interesting to see for it's historical value in the world of cinema, as well as it's importance in the world of experimental and surrealist filmmaking, but most definitely not the casual movie goes cup of tea.
This is a very strange little short film, but what I found really interesting was the interviews about the film and Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali. The interviews gave interesting insight into what the art community was like in the late 20's through the 30's and how this film came about.
This is an interesting gem, but don't read too much into it. Some people seem to think this film is loaded with symbolism, but in the extras it is explained that the film is meant to be devoid of all symbolism.
Dali and Bunuel went to great lengths to make sure every frame was non sensical and devoid of meaning. So when you watch this and go, "I just don't get it!" don't worry, you aren't supposed to.
