Review of Un Chien Andalou (1929) by K.c. L — 04 Apr 2011
Arguably the most well-known surrealist film ever that was created purely as an exercise on re-creating the feeling of experiencing a dream. The editing, cinematography, and overall free association storyline of the film really does perfectly capture the spirit of a dream.
The only problem with this is that there really isn't anything to be gathered from this film past a visual stand-point. Buñuel and Dalà have stated that they deliberately made this film without anything providing any rational explanation and nothing really symbolizes anything, so don't feel bad about not understanding this film.
In fact, have fun with any film snobs you know by asking them what this film means and see their brains explode as they try to give a pretentious explanation. This film is worth checking out at least once for one of the craziest silent films you'll ever see.
