Review of Umberto D. (1952) by Riccardo P — 16 Nov 2007
With all the due respect for rossellini and for de sica's bicycle thief, this is the best neo-realist movie, it is one of the best Italian movies ever made, and it's one of the greatest movies ever.
It's poetry in images. and every picture strikes a chord in your heart. there is so much feeling and sadness in this movie and yet there is hope and love. I don't think any movie has come near Umberto D--with the possible exception of Kurosawa's Ikiru.
