Review of Ultraviolet (2006) by Adam K — 15 Jan 2012
Cool concept poor execution. Put in the right hands this could have been one kick ass movie. Of course most comic books would make amazing movies if done right, but this is a good example of how you can butcher a comic book idea.
I liked some things. Like the vampire logic behind the virus. This was pretty original. props to the comic for that.
The overall style and color of the film wasn't bad. Even though some little tweaks could have made it a hell of a lot better. For one thing, there was hardly any blood. People are getting sliced to pieces yet you only see slight drips of blood. I found this odd. I guess thats why its still a PG-13 movie. For such a bad-ass feeling movie they should have went a lot further with it and pumped it up to a R rating.
I think they also sacrificed plot exploration for special effects and fight scenes. It felt like a race to the end of the movie. You don't really get into the characters. Even for an action movie. Part of the problem with the characters progression was the scripting. What duologue there was was lame at best.
If someone else made a sequel I'm sure it would have to be better than this.
All I can say is good thing I didn't pay for this.
