Review of Ultraviolet (2006) by Greg S — 28 Apr 2010
After an impressive credit sequence and a decent starting fight, the movie quickly falls into random flashing lights and bright colors.
The good? Lots of new gizmos and sci-fi technological goodness... flying cars, high tech weapons, vampires, oh yeah!!! They actually really thought out the fight scenes very well- I think both the DP and the Editor were from Hong Kong and they really pulled out the stops. The weapons were also very well thought out- though they could have been yet another Matrix rip off they actually went different routes and still made it cool. In the chase scene it was very CGI heavy, but it was all like a live action/CGI cartoon anyway so it was still fun.
The bad? When they tried to pull together a plot. Oy vay. No. Bad. BAD!!! The scenes that were were not fighting and any sort of downtime was HORRIBLE and painful to try and watch. I've been joking and calling this Resident Evil 2.5 and it's sad to say, but the plot to Res Evil 2 was slightly better than this film's cliched and unimaginative plot (and that's not saying much).
Watch this if it comes on late night and you can't sleep.
