Review of Ultraviolet (2006) by Marshall O — 07 Sep 2012
Who would though watching Milla Jovovich wearing sexy clothing and kicking ass could be so boring? It's just a bad, bad, bad movie. The story makes no sense. To try and explain it to you is just mind boggling. The film was heavily recut by the studio and Kurt Wimmer was locked out of the editing room, which is why this film turned out the way it did.
There aren't enough characters in this film, it just feels incomplete. The whole story between Violet and Six just sucks and it's not exciting.
The acting, dialogue, special effects and cinematography is poor. The film is so heavily graded, the characters look like ghosts. Half of the time Milla's nose keeps disappearing. It has a the same boring look as Sky Captain.
So, is there anything I like? Well, Milla's costumes are indeed skin tight, there some nice ass shots and a pointless scene where Milla walks down a scanner naked, it's dark but her body has purple lighting shinning on it. It's actually quite sexy. In the DVD commentary Milla said it took hours to film that scene. Why does that not surprise me?
The fight scenes are pretty good and the music is not bad. I actually thought this film was better than Aeon Flux, which bored the hell out of me.
Overall this movie sucks. Rent The Fifth Element out instead.
P.S. Her red outfit reminds me of Princess Arua's outfit in Flash Gordon.
