Review of Ultraviolet (2006) by Jc E — 25 Oct 2012
Now, this movie hit before all the rage over vampires reached the equivalent of cinematic critical mass. To its credit, it doesn't exactly try to reinvent the vampire movie, and has some nice departures from the original mythos, without veering into sparkling territory.
The rest of the movie is tantamount to an unmitigated disaster. The story is fickle at best, the acting is sub-par, the cinematography is jagged, and the special effects are below the standards of the SyFy Channel.
The hot factor isn't even there for star Milla Jovovich (A Perfect Getaway). It's not that I expected Oscar-caliper work from her - though, I did expect more from Cameron Bright (Thank You for Smoking) and William Fichtner (The Dark Knight) - but I at least expected something comparable to the 'Resident Evil' franchise.
It's nowhere close, and you would do best to stay away from it.
