Review of Ultraviolet (2006) by Bill P — 07 Sep 2013
This movie is the definition of a mixed bag. The visuals try to look like a comic book and are very stylized to try to cover up the atrocious special effects. (Seriously, there are GameCube games with better graphics than this movie.
) Sometimes the stylizing/cover-up works really well, and sometimes it doesn't. A lot of the visuals are creative and truly stunning, and sometimes they're garish and harsh to look at. The story isn't very deep or complex, but the world of the film is creative, and I liked the imagination that went into the characters and the fight scenes.
Some serious moments really work, and some are unintentionally funny. It could have been a lot better, but honestly, I kind of like it. It gets a lot of mileage out of the premise, the visual design and the fight scenes.
It's not great, but I'd watch it again.
