Review of UHF (1989) by Thomas S — 22 Dec 2009
Before Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, and all that other crap was around, there was UHF. This is an extremely cheesy and oftentimes entertaining spoof that's so spastic, it feels like you're watching the movie equivalent of a Wario Ware game.
The humor here is very surreal, and that's a lot of what I liked about it. The movie is by no means a masterpiece (it stars Weird Al for Christ's sake), acting-wise or story-wise, but it does not take itself seriously at any moment, and that's where a lot of the entertainment comes from.
Anyway, I found myself cracking up and appreciating a lot of what the film tries to do, but hopefully that's not just because I was slightly intoxicated when watching it. (Additionally, I quite appreciate the corny, melodramatic 80's synthesizer score).
