Review of UHF (1989) by Explodingboy1989 — 31 Dec 2008
One of my all-time favorite movies stars Weird Al (who has a perm too sweet for words) as George Newman, a lovable loser who has an overactive imagination. Jumping from job to job, George gets the chance to take over a failing UHF station from him uncle (who won the station in a poker game).
All sorts of hilarity ensues, and that's thanks to the stellar cast: Victoria Jackson, Kevin McCarthy, and a pre-racist Michael Richards. Lots of strange, surreal montages, and sometimes too close to home in its depiction of public access stupidity.
An instant classic that was more or less neglected upon initial release. Another note: David Bowie is NOT in this movie! He's often mistaken for being in because Al's roommate in this is an actor named David BOWE.
Sorry Labirynth fans.
