Let's face it folks: Weird Al is amazing. If you disagree, then I regret to inform you that you are terribly wrong. I hate to have to tell you like this.

Yes, the plot is very simple, generic and cliche'. It's a parody, that was intentional. George Newman (Weird Al, always hilarious) is given by his uncle (Stanley Brock) a rundown TV station so he can have a job. He has a rough start, but with the help of his friend Bob (David Bowe) and a recently fired janitor (Michael Richards), George manages to turn his station into a hit. Soon, however, local tycoon RJ Fletcher (Kevin McCarthy) decides to shut him down. Yes, the plot is simple and tired. You know what other movie had a plot that was simple and tired? "Airplane!" So what's my point? My point is that hating this movie is like hating "Airplane!" and, by extension, laughter and happiness.

Weird Al is actually quite good in this film, and it's a bit of a shame he never considered acting in more films. Everyone is well-cast, and they at least seem to be enjoying themselves, especially Anthony Geary as the egghead Philo.

Of course, the best part about this film is the humor. I wouldn't dare spoil the jokes for you, but let me just say- they almost always work. From the movie parodies, to the various TV shows, to the random gags that just appear out of nowhere- it's brilliant. The jokes are funny and frequent, and if one doesn't work, it's right on to the next one.

Special mention should be given to Trinidad Silva as Raul, who tragically died during the shoot (the film is dedicated to him). Though he has a small part, Silva really does light up the screen when he appears. Other great supporting cast members are Gedde Wantanabe as George's neighbor Kuni and Vance Colvig Jr. as a bum.

The film is, of course, not perfect. Not ALL of the jokes land, with the film's sole musical number unfortunately turning out to be a real dud. (I never watched the Beverly Hillbillies! How was I supposed to find any of that funny?!).

But other than that, UHF really is a gem, and funny as hell to boot.
