Review of U Turn (1997) by Dc F — 08 May 2010
A film noir set in a remote town in arizona. penn plays a guy in trouble with some russian loanshark/mobster (presumably - it's never really explained) when he gets sidetracked and caught up in the twisted world of the town residents.
As film noirs go this has most of the elements of the genre. but what didn't work for me was that the editing and camerawork are very similar to "natural born killers", which I liked, but they didn't work here for me - sets the wrong tone. also, the number of eccentric characters in the film seems too forced and downright cliche. good for about the first hour but the last hour is a bit tedious.
