Review of U Me Aur Hum (2008) by Amreen G — 12 Apr 2008
The movie begins with really nice quotes about love, the theme of love continues. The mood is set right at the beginning. As the movie progresses, you witness an average first half. You feel, why did Devgan make this movie at all. Post -interval no matter how long the film is you are very interested to continue watching this poignant film. It's not really the script that is solid, it is just the work of the director. Agreed, there are some scenes that drag but check out the mis-en-scene. The cinematography narrates half the story (other than the not-so-youthful-dialogues). Once the movie ends, it hits you and hits you hard!
That's when everything clears out, you know why Devgan chose to make a simple first half and how the dramatic turns bring us to a beautiful end. Kajol, is by far one of the best actors in India. She has outdone Konkana and Tabu! Ajay is brilliant, yet again. He might not be the greatest story teller but he knows what he is doing and he does it well. He know the right time to bring in a twist and to provide release. If only the story would have been a little more contemporary, the younger audience would be able relate to it. It seems like a film mainly for NRIs and women.
It's a Karan Johar type subject and a Ram Gopal Varma + Prakash Jha + Raj Kumar Santoshi kind of execution. At the end of it, it is an original Ajay Devgan film, confused? Just watch it!
Worth watching, at least once!
PS: Not for kids, 18 and above should go for this film not anyone younger.
