Review of U-571 (2000) by Josh C — 15 Feb 2008
An entertaining WWII submarine movie and nothing more. McConaughey and crew give decent performances, but nothing to write home about. The production design and execution do not make me think WWII either.
It feels alot more like the year 2000 than a film like Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. I think it would have been a better story, and definitely a better acted one, if they had stuck closer to the true life story (i.
E. what the f*** are Americans doing in this film). If you're interested in the history surrounding the Enigma code the film "Enigma" is far superior to this as far as I can remember.
