Generally, war movies do not suck, and this is no exception. The first quarter of the movie is slow, but after that it is straight up intense. Crank up the surround sound and enjoy the explosions. Acting starts out mediocre at best, but as the action picks up so does the acting.
Matthew McConaughey can be described as a "well-dressed hillbilly." So, why he was cast as an officer in the U.S. Navy is beyond me. If you can stomach the first fourth of the movie, you'll enjoy the rest.
