Review of Tyrannosaur (2011) by Danijel J — 07 Mar 2012
My British friend said: "If you want to see Britain as it really is, go see "Tyrannosaur". So I did. That's the first Paddy Considine movie I've ever seen but surely it won't be the last. "Tyrannosaur" is a great metaphor for the old school lad that is Joseph (brilliantly played by Peter Mullan) who reacts emotionally on everything going on in his life. You won't like Joseph as a character at first but you'll understand him as the movie goes on. "Tyrannosaur" is not for everyone and especially it's not for people who like Hollywood blockbusters. It's brutal and sincere; its violent and moving. Hannah (also great performance by Olivia Colman) is opposite of violence and brutality shown by Joseph, she's religious, prays a lot, desperately wants to hold to her little place under the sun. Those two opposites as movie goes on start to move toward each other. Switch is bound to happen sometime, society and surroundings aren't kind to them. They have to meet somewhere, and dramatic climax must happen. Their faces become mirrors of suffering and pain inflicted on them by society. Something must be done about that. "Tyrannosaur" wakes up...
Highly recommended to all non conventional viewers.
