Bleak as all hell, with defunct characters striving for something a little less shit than what they already have. Some nice touches of cutting around the domestic violence are unfortunately not consistent enough as we are unfortunately confronted with Olivia Coleman's somewhat characterless and paper thin rapist husband (Eddie Marsan) - Their relationship becoming the major add on to the short film 'Dog Altogether' that this film is based on.

I wasn't wholly enamoured enough by the short to think it warranted a feature film adaptation, but the feature moves along at a good pace with strong writing for the two leads, who give sterling performances.

Its cinematic quality is negatively effected by a finale that brings in voice-over to plug expositional holes however, and ultimately the little amount of hope that is on offer here wont be enough for most.
