Review of Tyrannosaur (2011) by Isuru B — 04 Feb 2012
Not sure whether I enjoyed this or not. It's a respectable piece of work certainly, stylistically reminiscent of Ken Loach, but it does miss the leavening humour that he injects into his films now and again.
Peter Mullan is his usual self, a magnetic screen presence, but the standout for me is Olivia Colman as Hannah. If I see a more emotionally devastating performance this year, i'l be gobsmacked. I'm not prone to extreme emotional responses to films but she had me in tears on at least one occasion, and it was worth seeing the film just for her.
She is a real, major talent and hopefully we'll see a lot more of her as a result of this film.
