Review of Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys (2008) by Kristi W — 18 Oct 2008
It was NOT what I expected ... A far cry from Why Did I Get Married (maybe Tasha Smith should've been in this one) and the whole "story" seems to move slow at first and then get really choatic at the end.
And Rockmond Dunbar had to play the most naive Black man in the UNIVERSE so it frustrated me.
Honestly, my favorite performance (besides the chick that played the secretary because she stole the movie! lol) was that of Kathy Bates. She held it together for me.
It was a different kind of roll for Sanaa -- we usually expect Robin Givens (who was also in the film) to play the gold-diggin' trick but Givens played the strong sista this time and thought it was a twist for Sanaa, I hope she doesn't play anyone like that ever again.
Taraji was great as usual, but Alfre (my cousin lol), kind of got lost in the madness. Didn't really like the story ... but hey what can you do ...
It's not as drama filed as I hoped it would be ... There were good moments, it just took a little long to get to them ...
Step it up TP (and lose that dang hair! lol).
