(1961) Two Rode Together.
WESTERN COMMENATRY.
After the civil war, although the war between the north and south was already over, their was a new war that began, and it happens to be with Native Americans who they capture from ravaging pioneers who settle down and so forth... Some are suspected to be still alive and are being held up and raised by Native Americans. Both Marshal Guthrie McCabe (James Stewart) and his partner First Lt. Jim Gary(Richard Widmark) were both assigned to 'rode together' to retrieve some of those captives creating much debates. Might as well call this "The Searchers" part 2 except that the original running time is 109 minutes when it's better as a long running series or one whole movie divided into three movies since director John Ford obviously wanted to say many things in this film but can only manage to say only a few instead which some or many things weren't properly addressed leaving viewers with more questions. James Stewart and Richard Widmark are great together as always and it was a result of their performances that hold this film together- not so much the script since it's obviously been compromised to be shortened.
2.5 out of 4 stars.
