Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Kimberly B — 09 Aug 2009
This film might be worth more than 3 stars, because I do think it was GOOD, but I still didn't necessarily LIKE it, if that makes sense. So 3 stars it is.
I liked the cinematography, and the director did a good job of gradually building tension throughout the story. Performances were good if not particularly memorable. The story centered on a depressive & uncharismatic character, though, who was more annoying than appealing. The story itself is not quite as depressing as you might think, based on how everything seems to be progressing, but it's still not exactly uplifting. "Romantic" it certainly is not; it's probably the antithesis of romantic.
The person I watched this with liked it more than I did, so perhaps you will as well. Might be worth a try, if you have some patience for the slow pace & don't mind walking away feeling mildly depressed.
