Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Codie E — 11 Aug 2009
The kind of downbeat simple storytelling that is rarely seen anymore. James Gray builds on the promise he has show with previous efforts The Yards and We Own The Night, focusing more on the heart and emotions while still keeping his consistant themes of family and betrayal present.
Joaquin Phoenix leads a good ensemble of actors with a standout but measured performance. And I just can't get enough of cinematographer Joaquin Baca-Asay - the man is one of if not the best currently working in the business.
