Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Jane K — 22 Aug 2009
I was really looking forward to this film based on the previews. I tend to think Joaquin is rather selective about the roles he chooses and tends to immerse himself in them, e.g. Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line".
But this film never caught on with me. It moved too slow and neither Joaquin (as a bipolar) and Gwyneth (as his messed up neighbor) came off as credible IMHO. There was really nothing original in the plot ("torn between two lovers" as the song goes) nor the way it played out in the film.
I kept wondering when the climax was going to come, and it never really did. I gave it 2 stars because it was not a total waste of time but not something to go out of the way to see.
