Review of Two Lovers (1928) by Abraham V — 02 Sep 2009
I was completely blown away by Phoenix' performance. From the directing all the way down to the set design and costuming, everything was top notch here. I can't help but compare it to the 500 DAYS OF SUMMER movie that made this whole anti-climactic narrative love story popular nowadays, but compared to that, this is CITIZEN KANE.
I feel that this film has been overlooked and the "bad" reviews come from people expecting a perfect happy ending or thinking that it was supposed to be something that it happily wasn't.
The 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY reference was awesome, too.
