Review of Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) by Brandon J — 06 Jun 2007
The greatest pure car-guy movie ever made, and the only REAL street racing movie (not that bullshit Fast and Furious crap)... three characters, with no names, simply called the Driver, the Mechanic, and GTO (played by the awesome Warren Oates) race across the country for no particular reason, looking cool, stopping for drag races, and generally doing what car guys do.
Features the Orbit Orange '69 GTO Judge and the LEGENDARY Flip-nose '55 Chevy, the quintessential gutted barebones street racing car. It would later be re-used in American Graffiti, as Bob Falfa's '55 with a new paint job.
There's very little spoken dialogue in the movie and very little music, and it didn't need either of them. An American drive-in classic.
