Review of Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) by Christopher P — 28 Jan 2008
A Chevy and a GTO race cross-country for pink slips, yet this premise is simply an excuse for an introspective journey into 1970s Americana. The rest of civilization melts away and American road culture is presented with great imagery, little dialogue, and (of course!) with outstanding driving sequences.
In one respect, the lack of dialogue is a good thing, as James Taylor and Warren Oates fare better in their music career then they do delivering movie lines in Two-Lane Blacktop. In contrast, Warren Oates does an amazing job with his character 'GTO' and I couldn't believe I was actually sympathizing with his seemingly shallow character by the end of the movie.
