Monte Hellman's minimalism almost works against "Two-Lane Blacktop". The motivations of The Driver (the inept James Taylor) and The Mechanic (Beach Boy drummer Dennis Wilson) are left to your imagination as they travel cross-country in their pimped-out '55 Chevy, evading cops, rogue hitchhikers, and Warren Oates as "G.
T.O.", who is also travelling across the 'States in his namesake. The simplistic premise is used to examine male obsession, but it's totally up to you as to whether the ending is brilliant or terrible.
