Review of Two-Lane Blacktop (1971) by Jan D — 22 Feb 2010
"Freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose.".
Stark, minimalistic road movie from existentialist director Monte Hellman with another great performance from Warren Oates.
"Two-Lane Blacktop" isn't for everyone, those expecting a fast paced, action packed road movie need to look elsewhere. This is a slow and meticulous film. The dialogue is kept to a minimum, but the silences speak volumes. Nothing much happens, or so it seems, as we follow these doomed characters down the endless blacktop of desolate despair.
