Review of Two Girls and a Guy (1998) by Alexander C — 04 Dec 2012
An atypical dramedy. I enjoyed the cadence of the film and admit the story rolled amply. Yet the premise of this film escapes me. Sure one can induce that the film revolves around the acerbity of love or the myriad of obstacles regarding relationships; but I didn't feel anything after viewing this.
The film offers a great buildup of characters and story then ineptly neuters the climax. Downey Jr. once again proves his forte as an actor. Graham and Wagner play the supporting role quite well. I did appreciate the simplicity of this film; one set, three main actors, and a narrow story.
Two Girls and a Guy braces the concept of less is more yet Toback falls short in providing an adequate perspective of his ideal towards love or relationships, besides emphasizing the rigidity of being an unfaithful, overindulgent cheat.
Good film but incomplete.
