Review of Two for the Money (2005) by Gökhan A — 23 Apr 2009
This is a stylish film. But unfortunately it is ungripping and uninteresting.
Firstly, the structure of the film is awful. There is no sense of good pacing and it all seems so messy to watch. Luckily, the director managed to add a bit of style and at least made it quite visually inpressive regarding angles and such.
The performances are mostly good, even McConaughey impressed me and reminds us how he can act as good as he did in Amistad. This is obviously a film that relies on Pacino and without him this film would have been much, much worse. His chrasima is perfect and is exactly what saves this film from being overly tedious, even if you have seen him play similar characters before.
The screenplay isn't actually bad and some great lines are spoken and the plot was decently written, even if it did turn out messy in the film.
This isn't a film that I would recommend but it certainly isn't one that I would tell people not to watch. With a little patience, this film is bearable and the final result is above average at least.
