SCORE: 78% Thumbs Up.
Rated PG.
Universal.
Initial Reaction: There?ll be a sequel: Two Sisters.
Main Characters.
Kumal, Sangha: Two tiger cubs..
Aidan Mcrory?s an adventurer looking for tigers and lost treasure. He?s played by Guy Pearce.
An unnamed prince played by Oanh Nyguen.
.
Plot Summary.
The movie starts off with a brief prologue of an adult male tiger and an adult female tiger having a secret rendezvous, and you can guess what happens next (they don?t show it on camera or else this film would not get the PG rating.) .
The female tiger gives birth to two sons, Kumal and Sangha. Everything is going fine until several men show up, shoot the tiger father dead and take Kumal prisoner. Aidan is working with the men ? he finds Kumal and becomes the tiger cub?s new parent. But Aidan is arrested for stealing statues, and Kumal is put into a circus..
As for the other cub, Sangha, he and his mother are chased by human hunters out for sport. The mother tiger is almost killed, but gets away. However, Sangha is captured and is given to a young boy (BIG MISTAKE!) .
After some time with the boy?s family, Sangha kills the family dog and is taken out of the house. He is put into the local Prince?s care..
Soon, the Prince wants a fight between his tiger and another one for entertainment. The circus where Kumal is in gives up Kumal to fight Sangha in what the Prince hopes is a fight that will amuse him and his guests..
.
SCORING.
Main Characters.
The tiger cubs are SO adorable that they (figuratively) eat up the camera and my attention. They kept me spellbound. Aidian is also great as one of the few humans that have any common sense in him when it comes to dealing with tigers. SCORE: 9..
.
Supporting Cast.
There are villains in this film, namely other humans, and they are portrayed in the way that makes the audience want to hate them (good for film.) But there are some other humans, the servants to the Prince for example, that I really didn?t care one way or the other about. SCORE: 7..
.
Plot.
The scenes with the two cubs/tigers are perfectly shot and acted or digitally remade. The tigers push the story along very nicely. However, several of the scenes with only the humans in it (the Prince and his men and their families) got boring. I was in it for the tigers and only for the tigers. SCORE: 5..
.
Originality.
Sure, there have been other films about animals fighting for their freedom, but too many of them have the animals talking when they shouldn?t. This film, thankfully, has the tigers acting one hundred percent in their natural way. SCORE: 9..
.
Violence Factor.
Some guys get mauled by the tigers, and there are gunshots fired, but no really grotesque wounds are shown, and the guns do kill the tiger?s father. SCORE: 8..
.
Other Moral Issues.
This film does a good job of showing why people should not try to raise wild animals at home and instead should work to preserve the habitat of those wild animals instead. SCORE: 9..
.
Final Score (out of 60): 47 .
% Score: 78%.
It?s a good film that works, but there is too much time spent on the humans when the emphasis should be the Bengal cubs/tigers..
