Review of Twixt (2011) by Reymondo L — 09 Jan 2013
I always try to support and applaud someone for creative bravery, but this movie is a muddled abomination. I wish Coppola had a consigliere who could take him aside and gently but honestly let him know when something is just not working out.
The only interest comes from Elle Fanning, who successfully conveys ethereal fragility, childish innocence and sinister adolescence at different times. However this alone can't compensate for an apparent lack of editing, plot, structure etc.
After watching Twixt, I feel like going back and revisiting one of my all-time favourite films: 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' - as an antidote. This Coppola film was much more successful at conveying horror and atmosphere through brave and creative film techniques.
