Review of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) by Andrew T — 21 Feb 2015
Fire Walk With Me, the prequel slash sequel to the TV series Twin Peaks, does little to add to the series and isn't completely interesting as a stand alone film. As a prequel to the series it mostly shows us visually things we already knew from exposition.
So it does not really add to the story or fill in any blanks. As a stand alone film I think it would mostly be confusing (more than it already is) to those that have not seen the show and aren't aware of the broader and sloppy mythology.
However, like most David Lynch films, it does create a world and environment that is uniquely Lynchian and that you will not get from any other creative minds. So as two hours of mood and characters it mostly works.
As a great work of story telling, not so much.
